=== Tekito WebP & AVIF Image Converter ===
Requires at least: 6.0
Requires PHP: 7.4
Stable tag: 2.7.1

Convert JPEG and PNG images to WebP and AVIF, serve supported formats while retaining originals, and inspect real delivery from the WordPress dashboard.

== Description ==

Tekito WebP & AVIF Image Converter creates sidecar files for images in the WordPress Media Library. It can also scan the active theme and active plugin directories. JPEG and PNG originals remain intact during normal generation. Choose WebP, AVIF, or both; if the output is not smaller, the plugin can keep the original instead. Quality is adjustable separately for each format.

There are two delivery modes: Apache rules in wp-content/.htaccess or HTML <picture> sources for installations with Nginx/CDN. A separate Nginx example is provided for a server administrator. An in-dashboard check shows the actual HTTP response with different Accept headers. Check cache/CDN behavior separately on your production site.

Processing runs in small WP-Cron batches. You can pause and resume in the dashboard. If WP-Cron is disabled or the site has no traffic, configure a system cron to invoke wp-cron.php or use WP-CLI: wp tekito-images --mode=generate. A ten-image trial, single-image retry, skipped-image list and CSV report help inspect the results.

The optional migration changes attachment metadata and URLs. Stage 1 keeps the JPEG/PNG originals for testing and rollback; stage 2 deletes them only after separate confirmation. Back up the database and files before migration. Automatic migration of new uploads performs stage 1 only.

== Installation ==

1. Install the tekito-webp-avif-converter folder through Plugins -> Add New -> Upload Plugin.
2. Activate the plugin and open Media -> Tekito WebP/AVIF.
3. Follow the step-by-step Help tab to choose output formats and delivery mode, run the ten-image trial and verify actual delivery before processing the whole site.
4. If you need migration, back up the site first and follow the separate Migration tab.

== Notes ==

* Existing versions use a different sidecar naming convention. This version places output beside the source as image.jpg.webp or image.png.avif to avoid basename collisions. Previous files without ownership records are not deleted automatically.
* Image URLs hosted on an external CDN or remote object store require testing and may not be writable by this plugin.
* WebP/AVIF are browser-facing variants; JPEG/PNG originals remain available for clients that do not accept the newer formats during normal generation.
* The bundled cwebp executable is for Linux x86-64 only. The plugin uses WordPress image editors when that executable is unavailable. An avifenc binary can be configured separately.
* Optional cwebp and avifenc paths are absolute filesystem paths to executable files on your server (for example, /usr/bin/cwebp); they are not URLs. External binaries require exec() to be enabled.
* The dashboard is available in Russian and English (en_US, en_GB, en_AU, en_CA).
